What does a Support Coordinator do?

A support coordinator is valuable in ensuring NDIS participants can access all the support they are entitled to. They play a kind of NDIS assistant role by helping you understand your NDIS plan and services and make the most out of them.

Support coordinators will help you find out.

  • What your NDIS goals are and how you can achieve them
  • The different ways to maximise your support
  • Which level of support and coordination you need
  • What are your needs and circumstances to gain support

Support coordinators help you invest less time and focus more on your goals. They should engage in some valuable activities while providing you with the needed help:

Help you to understand your NDIS plan.

  • Your support coordinator will work with you and help you to understand your NDIS plan.
  • They will support you with your budget and help you with all the information you need for your funding.
  • They will make you understand how to manage your funding.
  • You will know from them what other requirements need to be met to access the NDIS support. For instance, they can help you with the claimed or unclaimed quotes, how much can be claimed, and when service bookings are required.

Plan and coordinate your required support.

  • The support coordinators help you find providers, services, and support to help you follow your goals. You can work with your support coordinator to
  • Find providers who can meet your need
  • Decide how you would like your services and support to be delivered
  • Arrange and schedule your services that fit your NDIS plan
  • Try and work with multiple providers and see if they suit your need

Connect you with support and services.

Your support coordinator can provide information about your local community’s services. You can get help from your support coordinator regarding the following:

  • Choosing the right support services for you
  • Connecting you to the providers and services, which may include advocacy services if required
  • Choosing NDIS registered providers, such as NDIS managing supports or specific supports identified by the NDIS Commission.

Acting in your best interest

Your support coordinator must act in your best interest by providing

  • Recommendation, support and services that would best suit your requirement
  • Declare and avoid any actual or perceived conflicts of interest
  • Avoid engaging in participating or promoting sharp practices
