The term ‘recovery’ has different meanings in different contexts in the healthcare sector. In NDIS, recovery means reaching a better state of living a regular, stress-free life from a mental health condition. It means gaining an optimal state in the personal, social, and emotional aspects.
Recovery often means having no symptoms and being cured of an illness. But in NDIS, it is improving from a state of dependence to becoming mentally, emotionally, and socially secure. Psychosocial recovery is a recovery-oriented approach from NDIS that builds hope, abilities, and strength, an active mind and body, and an independent life:
- Recovery under NDIS involves personal well-being centred around the individual’s aspirations.
- Improve ability to function in daily life, such as communication, social interaction, participation in community activities, etc.
- Empower the participant to make independent decisions and exercise their choices and preferences.
