When and Why You Should Consider Changing Your Respite Care Provider?

There is no doubt that respite care is very important to ensure long-term satisfaction of the caregiver and the NDIS participant. However, there can be instances where you might see a rising need of changing respite care providers. This can happen due to several reasons.

Following are some of the reasons why and when you should consider transitioning to new respite services:

  • There is little or no communication: If you notice that your support person is frequently canceling the appointments or is being late without prior communication, it can be a sign for you to change. Everything that your respite care provider does, there should be proper communication regarding the same. This helps in avoiding conflicts and surprises at the last moment.
  • You are not happy with the support person: Sometimes improving care arrangements becomes crucial because the support person is not doing their work as per your expectations. Firstly, you can talk to them about it clearly and if it does not seem to change, you can start looking for other respite care providers.
  • There is a difference in values: Having similar values with the respite care support provider is very important because that way you can have a long-term relationship. That also ensures that the NDIS participant is happy and comfortable with the support person.
  • There is a lack of expertise: The professionals who offer support must have an expertise in helping people with disabilities or challenges. If you feel they are not able to provide the support that you need due to their lack of experience or knowledge, it is time to look for other options.
  • Your requirements change: Sometimes your requirements change and there is a need for upgrading respite care. It is possible that the NDIS participants improve or deteriorate their health so you need to change the respite care provider accordingly. Hence, there is a need to change the service provider that adapts well to your new requirements.

Conclusion

To sum up, switching NDIS respite providers can become inevitable if you are not satisfied with the current services. It can also happen because of the change in your circumstances or requirements. Therefore, you must be ready with your arguments before your next NDIS review meeting and offer enough arguments so that your NDIS plan is modified as per your current needs.
