Support Coordinator
An NDIS support coordinator bridges the participant and the service provider. They provide funded support and assistance as required. They also coordinate with the participants with complex needs and the suppliers to ensure that the client receives the best of their plan.
The support coordinator helps find appropriate providers and clarifies the details of the NDIS plan.
Local Area Coordinator
Local area coordinators (LACs) work with other planners contracted by the NDIA to handle planning meetings. Their primary responsibility is to link NDIS participants to the NDIS and other mainstream and community support within their respective areas. They provide a different level of support coordination than a dedicated support coordinator, as the role and responsibility are under the local geographical area.
Difference between Support Coordinator and Local Area Coordinator
Understanding the difference between a support coordinator and an area coordinator is essential to removing confusion and ensuring proper support and assistance according to the needs and goals of the participant.
An NDIS Local Area Coordinator (LAC) accesses plan meetings and creates new plans in the local area. Meanwhile, an NDIS Support Coordinator (SC) gets funding after the NDIS plan is approved and assists the participants in reaching their goals with NDIS.
Local Area Coordinators (LACs) can implement the participants’ NDIS plans, including those who need support coordination funding services. Support coordinators are mandatorily available for the NDIS participants and will have support coordination services in their plans.
Local Area Coordinators (LACs) assess the eligibility of the NDIS participants and review their plans. They also link the community with the participants for support. Support coordinators help the NDIS participants with complex issues, find and connect with NDIS management, and reach the goal more effectively.
