Support coordination is an essential segment of the NDIS, and it enables the participants of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) to live a fulfilled life by assisting them in understanding the most promising of their NDIS support plan and how to utilise it for their growth and development.
A support coordinator or specialist support coordinator is essential for both NDIS and the participants. They help the participant with their expertise to understand the importance of the NDIS plan and assist in various aspects related to the plan. Whether it is about goal setting, mainstream or other government or community services, they constantly update with the latest information.
There are three essential levels of support coordination in the NDIS Plan with which the support coordinator may help a participant:
- Support Connection
- Support Coordination
- Specialist Support Coordination
A support coordinator can help a person with a disability better understand the strategy for managing the funding, sustaining the budget, and the requirements needed to access NDIS support under the guidelines of the NDIS plan. They will coordinate support and the program and provide better service for your needs. They will deal with the participants and the provider and provide service according to the budget.
- Establish and maintain your support to help you in your NDIS journey
- Coach, refine and meditate on your funding, budget balance and services
Report to the NDIA about your progress and how well your plan is working for you - They develop capacity building for the participants, which means developing their skills, knowledge, and confidence regarding making necessary decisions in their lives.
- Preparing for unexpected events and planning to identify and manage the risks and challenges is another vital part of their training and support service
- They always care about the participant’s best interest and give advice and information to ensure that they can receive the right services and support from their provider
